THE STORY
A deep southern trip was chalked full of armadillos on the side of the road. An acquirement of a fresh one was easy. Due to the hot sun, it was understood that he must has been less then 8 hours deceased.
Upon a quick acquirement of basic tools at the local grocery store, the dissection process was done behind a car wash. Perhaps the location was not well thought out, since it was very close to an possible alligator invested area. Although a constant scan of the adjacent wooded area drew no predators, I ran numerous times away from bees.
The heart was removed and placed in a jar of high concentrate alcohol. Despite being wrapped 10+ times in garbage bags, the careful mail delivery of the specimen to Colorado never arrived. Next time I will utilize the offered refrigeration delivery.
